The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Alhaj Mullah Abdul Manan Omari, on the occasion of International Labor Day, in his speech said that only the Islamic Sharia fully protects the rights of workers and Laborers compared to all legal systems in the world.

The National Union of Workers and Employees, among many key institutions in the country, had suffered damage. The National Union of Workers and Employees' name had been misused and lost its credibility in our society. We worked to restore its credibility to the society. The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs added these remarks at the beginning of the ceremony.

The Islamic Emirate has rebuilt the National Union of Workers and Employees and is working to restore its credibility. The Union should work hard to serve the workers and laborers. The Union should work alongside the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs to defend workers’ rights. The ministry is committed to addressing the workers’ problems and issues in cooperation with the union and to working together with relevant institutions and the private sector to create employment opportunities. The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs added further these remarks.

A message from the Office of the Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate, read by the Ministry’s Director of Finance and Accounting, Mawlavi Ahmadullah Rafiq, instructed both government and private sectors to continue their efforts, fully respect workers’ rights in workplaces and society, pay attention to their health and nutrition, ensure their rights to rest and leave, and not allow even the smallest of their rights to be violated.

Without the efforts and hard work of laborers, the progress and prosperity of any country are impossible. The Union of Workers and Employees is committed to ensuring workers’ rights such as fair wages, a balanced work environment, skills development, better working conditions, and social justice. The Acting Director of the Workers and Employees Union added these in his remarks with the participants of the ceremony.

Workers and Laborers are the backbone of the national economy and play a valuable role in building the country’s infrastructure. This year they plan to implement three worker-centered policies, first, strengthening the training of skilled and professional workers; second, supporting domestic production; and, third ensuring job security measures that will primarily benefit workers. The Deputy Minister of Economy of Professional Affairs, Abdul Latif Nazari added these remarks in the ceremony.

At the end of the event, representatives of government institutions and the private sector pledged to support all Sharia-based and legal rights of workers and to increase their attention to workers’ rights in their workplaces. The program concluded with the distribution of certificates of appreciation and awards to several skilled workers and employees.
