The Acting Minister of Labor and Social Affairs meets with the new Country Director of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Afghanistan

The Acting Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Alhaj Mullah Abdul Manan Omari, accompanied by the Deputy Labor Minister and Director of the National Union of Afghanistan’s Workers and Employees, held an introductory meeting with the newly appointed Country Director of the International Labor Organization (ILO) for Afghanistan, Mr. Tite Habiyakare.

During this meeting, the two sides discussed promoting decent work, creating employment opportunities, expanding vocational training, creating jobs for Afghan youths, and improving the labor market.

Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (MoLSA) is committed to reducing the unemployment rate through different measures, for instance creating job opportunities for youths in governmental organizations, the private sector, and legally providing deployment facilitation of skilled Afghans abroad, Alhaj Mullah Abdul Manan Omari stated.

Also, the Acting Minister requested the ILO, to implement its project in coordination with the MoSLA across the different zones and provinces of Afghanistan.

After that, the Deputy Minister of Labor Affairs, Alhaj Mawlavi Mohammad Zahid Ahmadzai emphasized the need for close cooperation of ILO with the MoLSA to achieve these incredible goals. He further added that the capacity building of Afghan workers, implementation of labor-related documents, and coordination of international organizations are our prime priorities.

Following this, Mawlavi Abdul Mateen MawlaviZada head of the National Union of Afghanistan’s Workers and Employees, also spoke during this meeting. The MoLSA had cooperated well after the resumption and reactivation of the National Union of Afghanistan’s Workers and Employees, and we ask a strong cooperation and support from ILO as well, he further added.

By approaching International Workers Day, we seek the cooperation of all social partners and stakeholders to celebrate this occasion, Mawlavi Zada said.

Finally, the ILO representative in Afghanistan, Mr. Tite Habiyakare, praised the ongoing activities of the MoLSA and shared information about the ILO’s programs in Afghanistan. He also expresses his organization’s commitment to expanding cooperation with the related areas and other necessary fields to support the Afghan people.
